Step-by-step guides

Simple walk-throughs for common tasks in CricKids.

Scoring games

Scoring a game

Use this guide to help you set up a game and confidently score each ball in CricKids, from the first delivery to the final result.

  1. Tap the Game tab
  2. Select the team you want to score from the 'Home Team' menu (if you only have one team, it will be pre-selected)
  3. Enter the opposition team name and club (these are mandatory); you can also enter the grade and pitch number if you choose
  4. Confirm your game format (split innings or not), number of overs per innings (preset with the default value specified in 'Settings') in the Game Format section
  5. From the Scoring Profile section, confirm the scoring profile used for the game (this is the score allocated for wides, no-balls and dismissals). The selected profile is dictated by the team's preset scoring profile - this can be changed from the Scoring Profile section in the Edit team screen - see Editing Teams.
  6. When all required fields are filled, the Start Game button will change from grey to green
  7. Tap the Start Game button
  8. When prompted, choose whether your team will bat or bowl first. Then, select your opening player/s from the team's player list.
  9. You will now see the scoring screen. When batting, click a 'player tile' to select the player facing the ball (this will automatically change when an odd number of runs is scored). The active player facing the bowler will be highlighted green and display a 'batter icon' next to their name.

Select the number of runs (dot ball to 6 runs) - you can also select a tee-shot form the '...' button (you can set whether tee-shot runs are counted towards the score from the Settings tab).

Select a wide, no-ball, bye or leg-bye from the grey 'Extras' buttons; you can combine runs with extras (e.g. select No-Ball + 1 Run if the players score a run off a no-ball )

Wickets are selected from the red dismissals buttons.
  10. Once you have selected the correct button (or combination of buttons), click the 'Next ▶' button to proceed to the next ball in the over.
  11. CricKids will automatically prompt you to swap each bowler after each over, or batting pair at predetermined intervals. You can manually swap players at any time by clicking the 'Change Bowler' or 'Change Pair' buttons.

You can also substitute a player mid-over by tapping the 'Sub Out' button on the right of the batter tile. To swap a bowler, simply click the 'Change Bowler' button.

When scoring batting, CricKids will prompt you 1-over prior to a set batting-pair swap so you can plan accordingly (i.e. get the next batting pair down from the tree they're climbing).
  12. Repeat steps 9-11 until the innings (or split innings) is complete.
  13. CricKids will automatically prompt you when the innings (or split innings) ends. Continue scoring each ball until the game is complete.
  14. Once complete, you will be prompted to end the game. CricKids will then suggest a list of possible options for Player of The Day based to aid you in your decision. Click the 'skip' button to ignore this step (you can enter this at a later time if you want).

The list will be in order of highlights and place players who have not received a Player of The Day award this season at the top of the list.
  15. The game is now complete and automatically saved to the app. You can view the game and generate the PDF scoresheet from:
Stats > Season Stats > Select your team > Select the season > Select the game > Click the 'document' icon in the top-right of the view

  16. You can see the screenshots of each step on the How-it-works page.

Substituting a player mid-over

Whether it’s an injury, a quick break, or a planned rotation, CricKids lets you substitute a player mid-over without disrupting the flow of the game.

  1. If batting - click the 'Sub Out' button on the right of the batter tile - this will open the 'Substitute Batter' menu with a list of your available players

If bowling - click the 'Change Bowler' button - this will open the 'Choose Next Bowler' menu with a list of your available players
  2. Tap player you want to substitute
  3. The player tile will now display the new player
Editing a previous ball while scoring

Mistakes happen, but CricKids makes it easy to correct them:

  1. While scoring, tap the 'Prev ◀' button to navigate back to the ball you need to correct.
  2. Click the 'Edit Ball' button displayed above the player tile/s. When you click this button, the buttons used to select the runs, extras or wicket will become highlighted.
  3. Select the correct runs, extras or wicket buttons for this ball then click the 'Save ▶' button.
  4. To jump back to the current ball, tap the 'Live' button (between the 'Prev' and 'Next' buttons). You'll be returned to the current ball to continue scoring the game.

If you are a member of a shared team, you can keep track of the game in real-time:
